MINIATURE TEA PROJECTS:

The "TeaTime Teapots" Shoppe
Closeup photos, see page 2

By Christine Verstraete: Verstraete Miniatures Gallery. Teapots by Kitty Balke, except where noted.

I love small teapots, so when my friend, Kitty, started making them for me, of course a shop was needed. When the Houseworks' "Street of Shops" went on sale, it seemed the perfect home for this new project. The other two shops being planned include a Witch's Bakery and a Haunted Greenhouse. The walls inside my new teapot shop have a grey-pink stripe Houseworks wallpaper on top and a raspberry scrapbook paper on the bottom.

This project is about done; but, of course, I procrastinated on putting photos online! I added a Bunka rug to the front door and am now dressing a doll for the table. At the rate, I work, it may be awhile before she visits her favorite establishment!

This is a project I really enjoyed as I was trying to color coordinate everything. The wall trim is painted in a coordinating raspberry color. All furnishings are painted ivory, trimmed or glossed with bright gold, and lined with raspberry and pink floral scrapbook papers. Sparkly trim was cut from a set of stickers to edge the bookshelves. Gold teacup charms were painted and glued to the corners of the large bookshelf. The tops of the two side tables were sponge painted in contrasting colors. I usually am hesitant about painting wood furniture, but I've found it can make a dramatic change in how the room looks when everything matches.

Exterior: I added the Bunka rug after the exterior was finished. A new Bunka rug and tutorial will be added here soon. The tea cup planters are from a string of tea cups and teapots (Christmas decorations) from Hobby Lobby. The black sections were marbled using a feather dipped in paint. Below: full interior.
